Specialist Tuition

Tailored Instruction

LDANZ providers offer specialist tuition for individuals with learning differences. Instruction is tailored to each learner’s unique strengths and challenges.

Our teachers are registered or formerly registered New Zealand educators who use evidence-based, structured approaches to teaching literacy and mathematics. They have extensive experience supporting neurodiverse learners and helping them reach their full potential.

Common questions and answers

Does my child need tuition?

Your child may benefit from specialist tuition if:

  • They are falling behind in literacy skills.

  • They are experiencing difficulties accessing learning at school.

  • They are experiencing reduced motivation.

  • They face barriers to learning in the classroom, such as challenges with attention, development, or processing.

  • Specialist tuition can provide structured and cumulative support for children with additional learning needs.

How can tuition help my child?

Tuition provides targeted, one-on-one, or small-group instruction that is sequential, cumulative, and based on current research, planned to meet your child’s specific learning needs. An LDANZ teacher can help your child develop essential skills, fill learning gaps, and increase their confidence. This support can lead to better engagement and progress at school.

What does tuition look like?

Tuition with an LDANZ teacher begins with initial assessments to determine what your child already knows and identify the areas that need to be addressed in order to build their literacy skills. This assessment information, along with data from any cognitive assessments they may have had, helps LDANZ teachers pinpoint your child’s strengths and weaknesses in their learning. Based on these results, the teacher creates a personalised learning plan. Lessons are structured and regularly evaluated to ensure that your child is making progress and retaining what they have learned.

Who are LDANZ teachers?

LDANZ teachers are registered or previously registered teachers in New Zealand who have completed specialised training. They undergo approved training programs and a mentoring period to become proficient in evidence-based literacy approaches and to effectively support neurodiverse learners. Additionally, LDANZ teachers are required to engage in ongoing professional development to ensure they are utilising the most effective, research-backed methods to enhance your child's learning.
