LDANZ Conference 2018, July 6 – 8: It’s Time to Make a REAL Difference
It is nearly 50 years since a group of concerned educators, health professionals and parents began raising awareness and providing understanding and assistance to those with SLD, such as dyslexia, in New Zealand. Much has been done since then with many hundreds of teachers trained, largely by voluntary organisations, to make a difference to the lives of thousands of students and their families. However, with the government’s announcement of plans to overhaul the education system, it’s time to consider how a REAL difference can be made for those who haven’t been reached.
The Conference, to be held in Masterton at Solway Copthorne, begins on the evening of Friday, July 6 and concludes on Sunday afternoon in time for attendees to catch the 4.50 train to Wellington. A block booking with very reasonable rates has been made for those who wish to stay at the Copthorne.
Conference registration is the same as last year ($225 for LDANZ members; $275 for non-members)
The programme will be opened by the Hon Tracey Martin, Assoc Minister of Education, and will feature:
- On Friday evening families, including students, as well as local teachers will join with attendees to meet and hear Matthew Strawbridge from Dyslexia Potential.
- Saturday - breakfast meeting for delegates from Member Organisations; speakers during the day will include Professsor James Chapman from Massey University and representatives from NZQA; there will be a celebratory dinner that night.
- Sunday - forums with speakers, a meeting of the LDANZ Council, and the LDANZ AGM.
